When deciding what topics to cover, there are many different ways to plan out your teaching for the year. When I was a fresh graduate and new to teaching, also new to language teaching, I followed the advice of someone else who told me to plan 6-8 week long units on one topic. So I started by teaching about animals, and the students were engaged for about the first 3-4 weeks, then began to lose interest. I changed the way I structured my topics and I would change topics every 3 weeks. By doing this, it keeps students interested and I can also go back and revisit these topics later in the year. What works for you?
